13 main mistakes that students make during the practical exam for category B. A driving school from Warsaw explains what they are and how to avoid them

Before we reveal the 13 main mistakes made by people taking the test, we will tell an unusual story of students from our driving school in Warsaw. Some time ago, two ambitious girls signed up for our course, and after completing the training and passing the theory, they took the practical exams at WORD .

The first student was Magda. The girl was stopped by the examiner at a yellow light. The examiner told her that she had failed the test because she had not stopped at the yellow light herself. He argued that if we can stop without braking hard at a yellow light, then we have to do it.

The second student was Alicja. Her first attempt at the exam ended as in the previous example, i.e. with failure. The girl was shocked because she thought her driving was smooth and unhurried. However, the examiner had a different opinion. He said that he was failing her for the lack of dynamics, because her driving was too slow.

The girls decided that they would not make the same mistake again. And ironically, they failed another exam for the same reason… Why did this happen, when they did everything in their power to avoid it? More on that in a moment…

First, let’s answer the question: “What are the 13 main mistakes that students make on the practical exam?”…

What stupid mistakes are made during the practical exam in WORD? Driving school from Warsaw explains which lane we should be in during the exam

Such a stupid mistake is driving in the left lane, as in the UK. So unless we are told to turn left or make a U-turn, we should drive in the right lane during the test.

The left lane is used for overtaking or passing, and test takers, like drivers, are required to move as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway. Continuous movement in the left lane may be considered as obstructing and impeding traffic.

What are the most common mistakes when checking the technical condition and preparing to drive? Driving school from Warsaw explains how to check the position lights and open the car hood

The first such mistake is checking the position lights only at the front. When you turn on the position lights, a green light will come on on the dashboard. Then you should get out of the car and check the white lights at the front and the red lights at the back. The rear position lights are double.

The second mistake is opening the hood without using the lever inside the car. First, secure the car from rolling (pull the handbrake or put it in gear). Then, gently pull the lever, then lift the hood and secure it with a support.

What are the most common mistakes when driving around a curve? A driving school from Warsaw shows how to do this maneuver correctly

The first mistake is using methods. One of them is one turn of the steering wheel. Unfortunately, stress causes imprecise use of this trick. It is better to follow intuition and practice this maneuver to perfection.

The second is the lack of observation of the driving path through the rear window. Some people taking the test only look through the side mirrors, which is probably enough to perform this maneuver correctly, but not enough to pass the test…

What are the most common mistakes when starting on a hill? OSK from Warsaw suggests what to look for when performing this maneuver during the exam

First, starting off with just the clutch. Although theoretically you can start off this way, the lack of gas makes it very difficult to do this maneuver well.

Secondly, releasing the clutch incorrectly, i.e. too quickly. This can cause the car to jerk and even stall. Meanwhile, the car cannot stall on a slope…

What are the most common mistakes when performing tasks in road traffic? OSK from Warsaw advises what to pay attention to in the city

What mistakes do examines make in the city?

  • They are in a hurry, and as we know, haste is a bad advisor.
  • They force the right-of-way, creating a hazard on the road.
  • They make decisions too quickly, especially at intersections with limited visibility.

Which mistakes end the B category driving test? The Warsaw driving school explains which offenses will lead to discontinuation of driving in the city

Which mistakes in the city will end your practical exam?

  • Failure to stop at a “STOP” sign.
  • Failure to stop at the “S-2” traffic light, i.e. at the so-called green arrow for turning left.
  • Exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h.

Which mistakes threaten road safety? Warsaw driving school explains what can lead to a road accident

Which mistakes can lead to an accident in the city?

  • Enforcing priority at intersections.
  • Forcing priority when changing lanes.
  • Forcing priority at a pedestrian crossing.

Summary: 13 main mistakes that students make during the practical exam for category B

What 13 mistakes do students make on the practical exam?

  • First of all, they drive in the left lane instead of the right.
  • Secondly, they only check the front position lights, forgetting about the rear ones.
  • Third, they open the hood without using a lever inside the car.
  • Fourth, they use methods for driving around curves instead of practicing this maneuver and using intuition.
  • Fifthly, when driving around a curve, they do not observe the course of the road through the rear window, contenting themselves only with looking in the side mirrors.
  • Sixth, on a slope they start off using only the clutch, without pressing the gas pedal, which makes it difficult to perform this maneuver correctly.
  • Seventh, they release the clutch too quickly on a slope, which causes the car to stall and ends the test.
  • Eighth, they are in a hurry, which leads to many stupid mistakes.
  • Ninth, they force the right-of-way, both at intersections, when changing lanes, and on pedestrian crossings, which often leads to accidents on the road.
  • Tenth, they make decisions too quickly, especially at intersections with limited visibility.
  • Eleventh, they do not stop at the “STOP” sign, thus becoming kamikaze.
  • Twelfth, they do not stop at the “S-2” sign, i.e. at the green arrow.
  • Thirteenth, exceed the speed limit by more than 20 km/h.

Why did Magda and Alicja fail the category B practical exam for the same reason?

Magda failed her test again because she didn’t obey the traffic lights. During the next test, she was vigilant because she didn’t want to be caught off guard. She did everything in her power to avoid going through a yellow light again. And she didn’t! She stopped, very hard and aggressively. Despite this vigilance, the examiner failed her again. He said she should have gone through a yellow light because the braking was sudden and dangerous…

Alicja also failed her exam because of a mistake from the same category, namely the issue of driving dynamics. Namely, she decided not to drive too slowly, so she went to the next extreme, driving like a maniac, too fast and very dangerously. As a result, she ended the exam at her own request, namely by forcing the right of way, which resulted from her rush…

Why did it happen that both girls were vigilant, wanted to avoid the same mistake and, ironically, failed in a similar way? Well, sometimes it happens that we really want to fix the mistake from the previous exam. We do it ZERO-ONE, we go from one extreme to another. As it turns out, it does not give us a good result. That is why our driving school „Lauto” from Warsaw pays attention to warning its students from unnecessary stress during the practical exam in WORD…

WARSAW DRIVING SCHOOL
How are the exams conducted in WORD? The Lauto driving school from Warsaw explains how to pass the theory and practice step by step

From time to time, it happens that the head of a driving school in Warsaw trains the children of his neighbors. This was the case with Łukasz and Monika. Although they came from different families, they had many similarities: similar predispositions to driving, motivation to get a license and soon they were going to graduate from high school.

Łukasz started in January. By the time he was on vacation, he had already completed 20 hours of the course out of the 30 required. Monika, on the other hand, started at the end of September. Of course, instead of doing the course during the vacation, they left it for later, because they had a lot of obligations due to final exams.

Łukasz’s parents were very thrifty. First they negotiated discounts on the course, then on driving. They arranged everything in advance. They do this in every aspect of life, because price is the most important thing to them. If there is a chance to complain about something, they are the first. It is hard to recommend any services to them, because there will be problems.

Monika’s parents were the exact opposite. They bought the course and only just before the party reminded the school principal that their daughter was on a course with him.

Łukasz did the course for 12 months. No rides during the holidays. Monika was struggling to find the time and wanted to finish as soon as possible, but it was hard because of the number of additional classes. Despite the rush of classes, she managed to finish the course in about 2 months.

Despite these twin similarities, one of them passed almost immediately, while the other bounced from exam to exam. Which of them did better? More on that in a moment. First, let’s answer the question: „How do exams work in WORD?”…

Driving school „Lauto” from Warsaw explains what the theoretical exam in WORD consists of

The theoretical examination includes a basic and specialized part.

What does the basic part include?

  • 20 general knowledge questions.
  • We answer: „YES” or „NO”.
  • There is a separate time for reading the question and answering.

What does the specialist section include?

  • 12 questions about road traffic regulations and safety rules.
  • We select 1 answer out of 3.
  • You have 50 seconds to read and respond.

What is the scope of knowledge?

  • Road traffic regulations.
  • Principles of first aid.
  • Road safety.

What is worth remembering?

  • Only one answer to a given question is correct.
  • You cannot go back to previous questions once you have approved them.
  • Please arrive well in advance as you will need to find a suitable examination room.
  • Please bring your ID document.
  • The theory exam can also be taken before the course.
  • Once you have completed the exam, you will be informed of your results.
  • Once you pass the theory, you can move on to the practical part: start a practical course or sign up for the practical exam.
  • If you fail, you can sign up for another date.

Driving school „Lauto” from Warsaw explains how the theoretical exam is conducted

What are the stages of the theory exam?

  • Verifying the identity of the person taking the exam and indicating the computer station.
  • Familiarization with the operation of the examination system.
  • You may answer a practice question that does not affect your exam result.
  • Answering 32 exam questions in 25 minutes.
  • Once you have completed the exam, your results will appear on your screen.
  • People who get a negative result can check their incorrect answers.

How does the practical exam on the maneuvering site proceed?

  • We arrive at the maneuvering site 5 minutes early.
  • We take with us our ID card and confirmation of registration for the exam.
  • The examiner checks our identity and confirms that we are registered for the exam.
  • The examiner may ask you to check basic vehicle components such as the operation of the lights and horn, as well as fluids under the hood.
  • Before you start driving, you must adjust the mirrors, seat, steering wheel, headrest and fasten your seat belt.
  • The following tasks are performed at the maneuvering site: vehicle operation (lights), preparation for driving (mirrors), driving on a curve, i.e. driving in a lane forwards and backwards.
  • We use mirrors and — absolutely! — the rear window.
  • If the weather is bad or the exam is after dark, turn on your low beam headlights.
  • We are entitled to a second attempt if we stop before crossing the line or hitting the post.
  • We set off up the hill: we are entitled to a second attempt if the car stalls or rolls back.
  • The practical exam for category B lasts approximately 40 minutes.

What does the practical city exam include?

  • We are required to make: 1 or 2 parking stops and 1 U-turn using reverse gear.
  • We can have: an emergency stop (the examiner must inform us before the exam what signal he will give us) and a stop in a designated place (a typical stop to drop off a passenger – it is worth using your indicators).
  • The rest is driving in city traffic: turning, turning, watching your speed and following the maxim „Make haste slowly”.
  • It is worth making decisions slowly at intersections with signs when we do not have the right of way.
  • Traffic lights require more dynamics, unless we have limited visibility, e.g. left turn.
  • We read signs, watch out for solid lines and equivalent intersections.
  • During the exam, there is an examiner and a candidate driver in the car, and there may also be an instructor, a sworn translator, a candidate examiner (observer) or an inspector from the starosty.

The Lauto driving school from Warsaw summarizes how the WORD exams are conducted

Let’s go back to the story in the first paragraph…

How did Łukasz’s exams go? Although Łukasz had purchased a few extra hours before his first attempt at the practical exam, when his father found out, he immediately stopped this “waste of money.”

The OSK chief was even happy, because he was driving with Łukasz basically for the price of fuel and taxes, with no chance of earning any money, thanks to the boy’s father driving down the price of the trip…

The boy failed the first exam on a curve. The OSK chief provided him with a car for the second one. It was quite a good exam, but unfortunately Łukasz failed it when returning to WORD at the penultimate intersection.

The third attempt was in a month. The school principal was supposed to provide a car again and reminded Łukasz several times to give him the exam date in advance, so he could reserve a car for him. The boy gave it to him only a few days before the exam, when it was already too late…

Unfortunately, this time he didn’t succeed. Namely, he forced the right of way when turning left. Undeterred, he booked a fourth date in 3 days. And again he rushed the turn, forcing the right of way.

He scheduled his fifth exam in two weeks. He should have bought a few hours, but he didn’t: saving money was more important. And that was a serious mistake that resulted in another failure in WORD. But the head of the center preferred not to say anything, so as not to be accused of ripping off the boy’s father with an additional expense.

How did Monika’s exams go? Well, she passed on her second attempt. She took a total of 2 extra lessons before the exams. The first time she made a strange mistake on a one-way street. She passed the next exam almost on the fly…

Why, although they were as similar as two peas in a pod, Monika did it almost without stress, while Łukasz experienced pure horror? The answer lies in their family homes. Monika’s parents simply supported her, without unnecessary stress. Łukasz’s parents, on the other hand, put pressure on him to score, which only increased his stress. And of course, they skimped on the course, almost letting the head of the center go.

All Łukasz had to do was let go and trust the head of the driving school „Lauto” from Warsaw , who would advise him to buy additional hours on the road, and then the exam in WORD would go as smoothly as in Monika’s case…
